Dan Riccio, senior vice president at Apple, apologised on for abruptly ending the development of the AirPower. He goes on to say that wireless technology products are still on Apple’s agenda and future roadmap, although he didn’t specify what that next product would be.
The Apple AirPower was to be the brand’s answer to the already substantial wireless charging trend. It would have utilised a wireless charging mat that could accommodate up to three Apple devices simultaneously. As an example, this includes the latest iPhone, an Apple Watch, and the Apple AirPods (via its Wireless Charging Case). One reason behind the AirPower’s cancellation was supposedly due to its multi-inductor design. Multiple reports point towards a long list of problems that include overheating, interference issues.
