The announcement was made via a post on Steam, that starts with “All good things must come to an end.” The developer also cites “very interesting projects that require the full focus of the development teams and leadership” as reasons for the shut down. As a result, the game will no longer be patched or updated.
As a farewell note, Hardsuit Labs have made all items on the PC store free until the date of the shutdown. The PlayStation (PS4) version of the game will continue “as is” because “there are no game servers being hosted for it.” But as mentioned, there will be no new updates even for the PS4. It has been over seven years since the game was in its initial closed beta for the PC. Dedicated PC players will definitely feel the loss.
