In North America, the film raked in around $US 350 million over the weekend, zooming past previous record holders Avengers: Infinity War ($US 257 million) by nearly $US 100 million and also Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($US 248 million). Other films that grossed more than $US 200 million in North America opening weekend are: The Last Jedi ($US 220 million), Jurassic World ($US 208 million), The Avengers ($US 207 million), Black Panther ($US 202 million) and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen ($US 200 million). Outside of North America, the stats are even crazier. Endgame raked in approximately $US 859 million in its first weekend, crushing the previous record holder The Fate of the Furious ($US 443 million) by nearly double, which is completely unfathomable. No other film has even grossed more than $US 400 million outside of North America in its opening weekend, but Infinity War, Jurassic World. Deathly Hallows Part Two and Captain Marvel managed to rake in more than $US 300 million. To put things into perspective, Endgame‘s single weekend collection has already made it the highest grossing film of 2019 thus far. On top of that, Avengers: Endgame is ALREADY the 18th highest grossing movie of all time, beating Captain America: Civil War, The Dark Knight, Batman V Superman, Justice League, every single X-Men movie, every single The Lord of the Rings film and every single Transformers flick. Let me remind you, Endgame has only been out one week!
There’s little doubt that Endgame would easily join the $US 2 billion dollar club by the end of its run. As of right now, there are only four movies in the prestigious club: Avatar ($US 2.7 billion), Titanic ($US 2.1 billion), Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($US 2 billion) and Avengers: Infinity War ($US 2 billion). The question on everyone’s mind is, would Endgame be able to surpass James Cameron’s Avatar to be the highest grossing, undisputed champion at the global box office? #WhateverItTakes (Source: Box Office Mojo)
