This came via a simple update to the initial announcement page. The latest addition is dated 4 June, and reads “the photo transfer tool is now available globally to everyone on Facebook”. Before this, the tool was updated to be available in other regions, like Latin America and the European Union.

Accessing the option is simple enough. All you have to do is head to your Facebook settings, and then “Your Facebook information”. There, you’ll see the “Transfer a copy of your photos or videos” option. Though as for where you can transfer them to, it looks like Google Photos remains the only option for now. Facebook says the transfer tool is made based on open source code from the Data Transfer Project. Based on its dedicated site, it looks like other contributors to the project include Apple, Microsoft and Twitter. This could mean that you’ll be able to move your media to these other platforms, and between them too. Of course, there’s no notion of any of that being ready any time soon. (Source: Facebook, DTP)
