Screenshots of this feature were first shared by Matt Navarra (@MattNavarra), a well-known social media consultant on his official Twitter account recently. In his screenshot, Facebook looks to be prompting users to confirm their location so that they can be matched with other users who are also living around the same vicinity. The social media platform will then prompt them to confirm their neighborhood. Upon confirmation, Facebook will utilise a user’s location data to display posts, groups and marketplace items with other users within the same area. However, users will first be required to create a separate Neighborhood profile in order to connect with others who aren’t already listed as friends on Facebook.

In terms of privacy, the social media platform has also created dedicated privacy options which allow users to control their activity within the neighborhood platform altogether. For now, it is not known if Facebook will also implement this feature for its users within the Malaysian region. (Source: Twitter via @MattNavarra)
