But is it enough? Needless to say, the COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on workers, as significantly more is expected of them during this time. 58% of them said they feel overworked and exhausted. Perhaps unsurprisingly, there is a significant gulf between the bosses and their employees. 46% of business leaders said they are “thriving” right now – 16% higher than their employees. Relatedly, a whopping 69% of Gen Zers – those aged 18 to 25 – said they are just “surviving” or “flat-out struggling”.

“The pandemic has proven that organisations can and must trust their people to be productive from anywhere, and anytime,” said Microsoft Malaysia Chief Marketing & Operations Officer Michal Golebiewski. Microsoft’s Work Trend Index survey polled over 31,000 full-time employed or self-employed workers across 31 markets between 12 January to 25 January 2021. At least 1,000 full-time workers were surveyed in each market including Malaysia. (Source: Microsoft. Header image: Vlada Karpovich / Pexels.)
