Sony will be producing a live action film adaptation of the popular manga and anime series One Punch Man, according to a report by Variety. It is said that Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, who’ve also worked on Venom (2018) and the Jumanji sequels, are set to write on the upcoming film. One Punch Man originated as a webcomic created by japanese artist ONE in 2009. Due to its popularity, the title was then picked up by Shueisha’s Tonari no Young Jump magazine with reworked illustrations by Yusuke Murata (Eyeshield 21) and its story written by ONE. The manga would later be adapted into an anime TV series that debuted on TV Tokyo in 2015, with its first season produced by Madhouse and its second season by JC Staff. According to Variety’s report, the live action film would be produced by Arad Productions who’ve also previously worked on Venom, as well as Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse and the upcoming Morbius film. The report adds that Sony has keen interest in the One Punch Man property due to its current popularity and success. Well, it appears that Dragon Ball Evolution wasn’t a big of a disaster to convince Hollywood from tarnishing beloved Japanese pop culture titles. But then again, some of these adaptations turned out to be decent; such as Alita: Battle Angel and also Edge of Tomorrow (based on the All You Need Is Kill manga). Maybe, just maybe, Hollywood’s One Punch Man may turn out alright. Probably. (Source: Variety)
