There also appears to be some details about the project having been divulged; the anime’s story will be penned by the Derek Kolstad; Kolstad is one of the main writers behind the John Wick films and has also been brought on to the project as executive producer as well. Netflix has also locked down two seasons for the Splinter Cell anime, with a total of 16 episodes spread across the seasons. On that note, there’s no indication that the anime will be a limited series exclusive, or if the streaming service intends to add more episodes to the list in the future. Further, neither Netflix nor Ubisoft have provided a concrete launch date for the anime.
Netflix decision to bring Kolstad does make sense, from a certain perspective. For both the uninitiated and fans of the series, Splinter Cell is centred around the game’s protagonist, Sam Fisher, and the overall theme of stealth, subterfuge, hi-tech gadgetry, and the occasional assassination of in-game key figures. On another note, Ubisoft’s last proper title in the series was Splinter Cell Blacklist back in 2013. Since then, the game’s protagonist has been relegated to cameos in the publisher’s last two Ghost Recon titles: Wildlands and the lacklustre Breakpoint. As for when Ubisoft intends to launch a new Splinter Cell game, there’s still no official word on a follow-up title, save for the rather debatable rumour that a new title will only be viable sometime next year.
