Tests for this pilot project started all the way back in September last year and the announcement today is not exactly surprising as we have seen the proof in the form of the speed test by Jasin Post Office last month.

Not only that, TNB has also stated that the pilot project was actually completed ahead of schedule. As a result of this project, the three aforementioned areas of Jasin are also in a unique spot where they are able to choose from multiple ISPs. Up to eight ISPs are offering their services over in Jasin, including big names like Maxis, Digi and Celcom.

The Minister of Communications and Multimedia has stated that the result of this pilot project will be used in the consideration to possibly carry out this pilot test on a larger scale throughout the country. That said, no timeline has been given as to when this will be carried out but nevertheless, it is a positive sign for the development of the broadband market in Malaysia.
