“It is a big challenge for us to cover the zoo’s operating costs during this temporary closure,” said Zoo Negara deputy president Rosly Ahmat Lana. He assures that all animals are healthy and in good shape, and that they currently have enough food as appointed contractors still deliver supplies.

Rosly explains that the emergency fund is only sufficient to sustain the zoo’s operation for three months, and no organisation has come forward to contribute additional resources so far. The fund is specifically created by the management of the Malaysian Zoological Society for unforeseen circumstances such as the MCO. “For those who want to donate, they can do so by participating in our Adopt An Animal campaign,” he said.
